A firmware update was just released that allows the MemCard PRO 2 (or v2 MemCard Pro 1’s) to act as a Bluetooth or USB GamePad receiver when connected to a PlayStation1 or PSOne Console. This will not work with PS2 consoles and it’s important to note that you shouldn’t connect a PS1 controller to the port under the MCP2 when this feature is used. This is a new feature and there’s plenty of limitations, but as a COMPLETELY FREE update to a device sold only as an advanced memory card, I think this is pretty incredible. At the moment, the only bluetooth controllers that are compatible are the 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C and Xbox Wireless controllers. The PlayStation DualShock 3, 4 and DualSense controllers will only work in wired mode and require you to supply power to the controller, while passing data to the MCP; This can be accomplished with a USB Y cable & PSU, or simply by using a powered USB hub.
This feature is pretty new and proper lag testing hasn’t been done yet, but anyone who owns a MCP2, or second edition MCP1 should give it a try if you have a compatible controller. Please check the instructions linked above for more info and a setup guide. It all seems pretty easy, especially if you already own a compatible controller.
What makes this update even more exciting, is it comes shortly after the previous (and also always free) update that allowed these same cards to launch games on PS2 consoles! Check out that feature here: https://www.retrorgb.com/playstation-2-mmce-setup-demo-livestream.html
